Hi Peter

You are aware that the officer from the Childrens Department visited the home on Friday 31st August 2006 on the registration - inspection exercise.  All was successful and hope to receive the certificate before the end of the year.  Meanwhile lets note the progress of the home.

1.  We have 26 children (13 boys and 13 girls) One boy (Waithaka) is due to sit for std 8 exams this November.

2.  The home has recently acquired an extension – PCP wing.  By the way what does PCP stand for.

3.  The new wing (house) is to accommodate the older children (8 at first).  The house is complete and ready for occupation anytime.

4.  Electrical wiring has started for both houses - will take about one month to finish.

5.  A suitable geneator (diesel driven) will be sourced to provide power for the children( at least 3 hours in the evening) and 1 hour during the day for the washing machine(cost may exceed Ksh.100,000).

6.  A suitable washing machine is necessary (at least 10kg capacity) to do the work for the home (cost over Ksh.50,000).

7.  The children will require a T. V. set, Video/DVD when power is available.  A budget of 25- 30000 is okay.

8.  We need to stat some income generating projects for the home (a lipela shop, Maize mill, Lipela academy, craftshop  etc).  suggestions on this line very welcome.

9.  The home compound requires landscaping to ensure proper playing field and facilities.

10.  Quite a number of children facilities require replacement often 5 - 6 years of usage, especially beddings, utensils etc.

11.  Lipela house has had a new coat of paint and looks very beautiful.

12.  Firewood continues to be the source of cooking fuel - its becoming more expensive and rare - we will visit other homes to see how they manage it.

13.  Staff morale still high. The government increased the minimum wages again this year to Ksh.5,800.  We need to discuss.

14.  The local community is very receptive in lipela. The neighbouring schools, churches and individuals continue to visit the home with various kinds of donations especially old clothes, books foodstuff etc. This we appreciate very much.

15.  We have sent word to the local politician to assist us especially on murraming of the access road and also on electricity but politicians are politicians.

Finally our thanks to the lipela sponsors for the effort and sacrifice to enable the home grow so fast. We will ensure that every krona is spent for the benefit of these children.

Greetings.  Francis
