We arrived at Lipela late
in the afternoon and we got a jubilious reception both from the
children and the staff. The old children introduced us to the new
arrived children whom we had not seen before. After dinner they sang
and dansed for us and Rose & Baba also sang some danish folksongs.
The following many days we had differrent activities in and out of
Lipela. We had a full day walk, picnic, 10 km marathon run and
luckly I finished being no.5. I had difficulties with thin highland
air, but I beat them in 800 metres. We had a day swimming at Nanyuki
and all had their first time in sauna and damp bath. We ended the
tour at a cafe and had sausages and chips. When we arrived at
Blueline (the little hotel near by Lipela) to our surprise, it had
rained a lot and we had to walk with difficulties back to Lipela.
The 24th we went to Francis' wedding and there were 200 guests. The
children had prepared 3 danses, which they performed for Francis and
his wife and the rest of the guests.
The football, netball, volleyball and basketball are ready now.
Therefore the children have a lot of activies going on as they are
on holidays. 4 go carts, bicyles and swings are all ready and
actively used. Evenings went by performing theatre, danses etc.
During Xmas we slaughted a calve and it was enough for 3 days with
meat. New year we had 15 women on visit from one of the chilrens
birth place and they had come to make food for the children and they
brought with them a sheep for next xmas.
Generally, the children are fine and doing well at school,
especially after they started private coaching. They look happy as
ever. The only sad moments was when they had to depart with us -
lots tears of from our children and the bigger group of Lipela
members. Honestly, they are nice kids, we have!
The extra wing building is in progress and the big children are
looking foward to move. The 2 young danish girls are doing ok and
they are leaving for the coast on the 9th of January.
Our stay was unfathomably nice. All the children and staff members
passed their kind regards and wish all good new year.
